What is a doula

A doula is a birth support person. She is there to support both the woman giving birth and any support person she may have. The doula provides emotional, physical and informational support during pregnancy, birth and/or postnatal care as agreed. The doula does not perform medical examinations. The midwife is responsible for the birth.

What I offer

As a doula, I will be by your side during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum time. During pregnancy, we will get to know each other and discuss the different stages of pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnancy appointments are tailored to your wishes. For example, I offer information on how to prepare for childbirth, different pain relief methods, postures during labour and the moments immediately after birth. While you are my client, you can always ask me if there is anything you are worried about.

During on-call hours, I am on call around the clock. If you wish, I will come to support you either at home or I will see you at the hospital. I will be present throughout the birth, supporting and encouraging you as you wish. I will guide your partner in supporting you and will be there for you in challenging moments if the birth does not go according to plan. After the baby is born, I will be with you for 1-2 hours.

About 1-6 weeks after the birth, we will meet for a home visit. During the visit we can go over the birth, baby care or anything else you would like.

My hope is that you will be heard and seen as a birthing person and have the best possible birth experience.

Where

I do my doula work in the Uusimaa area (Naistenklinikka, Jorvi, Lohja, Hyvinkää).

Me

I am a trained doula (Doules) and a member of the Finnish Association of Doulas. I commit myself to work according to the job description of a doula: Doula job description

I have worked as a doula for both couples and independent birthers.

Feedback

How did you benefit of me during pregnancy?

It was good to go through the birth wishes beforehand and get a new perspective on them. It was nice to share my feelings during pregnancy. -Eeva

You were my emotional support during pregnancy. I knew that I could ask you at any time about the things on my mind. -Anu

How was I useful to you during childbirth?

The most important thing was to have company and the feeling of not being alone. You could always check if the feelings of the moment were normal. It was also nice when you took the first photos with the baby, I didn't think of that at that moment. -Eeva

You were a great support to me as we waited for the birth to actually start. There were many nights of contractions before the labour finally started. You encouraged, reminded me to rest and do nice, relaxing things. It was really helpful! During the birth itself, you were a support and security for both of us. -Anu

How was I useful to the support person?

Just looking at you calmed me down! I saw that you were calm, so I relaxed too and was able to fully support my spouse! I felt the support of the doula was really important. -Anu's spouse

Good to know

In a free introductory meeting (about 30-45 minutes), we can get to know each other a little and talk about your upcoming birth and your wishes. The meeting will take place either face-to-face at my office in Espoo or remotely. The meeting does not commit you to anything, but afterwards you will be able to think about whether I would be a suitable person for your birth team. The most important thing is to find the right doula for you!

Payment

You can pay in 2-4 instalments, except for weekly diving, but the full amount must be paid one month before the start of the service. You can also apply for a household tax deduction for home visits (vero.fi).

Additional doula appointments 120 € (incl. VAT 24 %). Duration of the appointment 1,5-2 hours.

Take a look at the different doula packages and if you want I can tailor a package to suit your needs.

The treatment room is located in Olari at Komeetankatu 1. When you turn onto Komeetankatu, the car ramp is almost immediately on the right after the courtyard. Drive (or walk) up the ramp to the roof. You can leave your car in the spaces next to the door (it says Ledicon and SRS). When you enter the door you will be in the waiting room where I will pick you up.
